| Units arrived within 4 minutes and found a passenger vehicle had slid off a steep driveway trapping a patient underneath it. The rescue operation complexity was increased due to the unstable position of the vehicle and manner in which it was resting on the patient.
Command requested additional resources which brought Berwyn Fire Company, Rescue 5 from East Whiteland Fire Company and Heavy Rescue 53 from Fame Fire Co. No. 3 of West Chester. Tredyffrin Township Police Department also responded in force to assist.
Crews stabilized the vehicle using struts, cribbing, pickets and tow strap anchoring using a tow truck from Door’s Towing. The vehicle was slowly lifted off the patient with a combination of airbags, hydraulic spreaders and a winch. Patient extrication was completed in approximately 30 minutes while EMS provided continuous monitoring and care. |
